Italian navigators called the city «New Harbour». The Turkish name «Kusadasi» is translated as the «bird island». In ancient times, the city was in the shadow of Ephesus. Today, Kusadasi is the third largest Turkish port where huge cruise ships enter.
Tourists will enjoy city tours. Within the city borders there is Huvarjin (Pigeon Island) with the Genoese fortress of the 13th century. In the 16th century, it was conquered by pirates led by the legendary Khair-ad-Din Barbarossa, making it their outpost. So it’s called the Pirate Castle. It’s in the list of the seven most beautiful castles in Turkey. There’s a museum here. You can get to Pigeon Island by a pedestrian causeway.
There is also a 17th-century Caravan Saray with an old mosque.
Four water parks and an amusement park are at the service of family lovers, where you can spend a whole day with your children, taking a break from the beach rest.
Kusadasi neighbourhood
Kusadasi is an interesting place for lovers of active recreation. In 2016, the authorities sank an Airbus 300 aircraft in waters near the city to attract fans of diving into the clear waters of the Aegean Sea.
You can take a balloon flight from Kusadasi to Pamukkale and enjoy the views of ancient Hierapolis and white limestone terraces.
Close to the city there is the National Park called Delek, declared by the Council of Europe as a biogenetic conservation zone. It attracts tourists with the picturesque rocks and canyons. In the park the Cave of Zeus is located. According to legends, the Greek God was sheltered in it with earthly beauties, hiding from the fearsome wife Hera. Inside the cave there is a pool with crystal-clear water.
The Ephesus tour is popular among tourists in Kusadasi. The antique town is located only 20 km away from the resort.
