Akyaka is a cosy, fabulously beautiful fishing town in the heart of Gekova Bay, near the mighty mountain Sakartepe, densely covered with pine trees.
The settlement is surrounded with coniferous forests and mountains. As formidable guardians, they protect and hide this paradise from the rest of the world. Akyaka is located 25 km from Marmaris and takes half an hour to get there.
The cost of the tour includes:
– guide service:
– a round-trip transfer;
– beach and boat tickets;
– insurance.
You’ll need swimming trunks, swimsuits, towels, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and money for extra expenses.
In 2010, Akyaka joined the movement «Slow City» (Cittaslow), which originated in 1999 in Italy. The goal of this initiative is to preserve the authenticity of small towns, to make the lives of people more peaceful and enjoyable. It’s much more important than hard work, making a profit, and constant haste. So there are no big hotels, discos, banks, or supermarkets in Akyaka. No fuss, no noise. There are only small guesthouses, cosy pubs and restaurants, and a few shops. Kitesurfing is the only activity in this town as the coastline is perfect for it.
The houses in Akyaka are not more than two floors and are designed in the same style: white walls, narrow tall windows, and tile roofs. Window casing and balconies are made of dark wood. Multi-storey construction is prohibited. People plant fruit trees and ornamental plants near the houses and take care of them. It’s become a cult here for a long time – surrounding itself with living beauty. Everything is drowned in greenery and flowers. It seems that it is not Turkey, but Switzerland.
You will take a comfortable bus. On the way, there is a stop at Lovers’ Alley with tall eucalyptus trees. There is a belief that if a girl and a boy walk on it, holding hands, they will never part.
The path will pass by the cliffs where the tombs of the Lycian period are carved in the upper part. How did ancient people do this kind of work without the help of technology? History is keeping silence.
In Akyaka you will go immediately for a boat ride to the Azmak River which is surrounded with beautiful nature, reeds and thick forests like jungles. The water is so pure that at a depth of 10 metres you can see fish, algae and pebbles on the bottom. There are ducks and geese on emerald-turquoise smooth.
Then you will have two hours to walk down the charming streets and relax on the local beach where the Blue Flag flies proudly. This means that it meets the highest and strictest international standards. The beach is flat, with fine sand and the gentle sea.
On the way back you will stop in a panoramic place with stunning views to admire nature one more time and take spectacular photos.
